Children's Day at Arts FestFor art-loving children, the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will hold its annual Children and Youth Day, one day prior to the start of the arts festival. The Children and Youth Day will take place July 13, 2011, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature the Children and Youth Sidewalk Sale and events for all ages.

The Children and Youth Sidewalk Sale is a centerpiece of Children and Youth Day, which includes performances for and by young people, art and craft workshops and demonstrations, and a Grand Procession through the Festival site.

Participants in the Children and Youth Sidewalk Sale must be children between the ages of eight to 18. All artists must make their own work; no kits are permitted.

For more information on the 2011 Children and Youth Day, and further participation requirements, visit the Children's Day page of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, or call 814-237-3682. Scheduling is subject to change.

Special Event to take place on Children's Day:

Pat Farrell Community Sing Along Wednesday, July 13
7:30 p.m. at State College Presbyterian Church,
132 West Beaver Avenue, State College

For many years State College residents came together for a weekly "community sing" each week during the summer, under the direction of Frank Gullo, the director of Penn State’s Glee Club, and Hummel Fishburn, the director of The Blue Band.

This fun tradition disappeared in the 1970's, but the Festival is bringing it back this year, in memory of Pat Farrell, a former Arts Festival board president who died in November 2010. Community and music were the foundations of Pat's wonderful life.

Young and old, those who can sing, and especially those who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, are invited to come out to the Pat Farrell Community Sing-A-Long. Join conductor former Penn State Glee Club conductor Douglas Miller and Essence of Joy director Tony Leach in the State College Presbyterian Church, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, as we come together to make some joyful noise. It promises to be a fun evening of traditional favorites, folk songs, camp ditties, and perhaps a show tune or two.
