The Pennsylvania Military Museum will open on March 5 with new interpretative labels discussing the PA Historical and Museum Commission theme for 2009, Energy: Innovation and Impact. The Military Museum will exhibit several labels utilizing an innovative interpretive display called the Tactical Educational Kiosk (TEK) designed by the architectural students of Penn State professor Warren Wake as the passing grade for a class-engineering project. The TEK is extremely low-tech device yet imparts an impressive amount of information. Other concepts discussed within the energy theme are the use of bicycles in combat, powering cars on charcoal and the development of synthetic fuel. In addition to the TEK display there are a series of special labels throughout the exhibit highlighting the importance of oil in World War Two. The special energy theme will remain on display through the end of the year.

2009 New York-Penn League All-Star Game

The All-Star Game will be a three-day celebration from Sunday, August 16 to Tuesday, August 18, and will incorporate locations such as Downtown State College, Tussey Mountain, the Mount Nittany Club at Beaver Stadium, and Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.
All-Star events begin on the 16th with the Downtown State College All-Star FanFest on the 200 block of Allen Street between Beaver and Foster Avenues from 1-5 p.m. This free event, being put together with the help of the Downtown State College Improvement District, will bring all of the fun of the ballpark to downtown State College, with inflatable games, carnival attractions, batting cages and a speed pitch machine. Fans of all ages can also test their skills in several different Penn State sports and take a picture with an array of Penn State championship trophies. Ike the Spike, the Nittany Bank Nookie Monster, and Bob the Baseball Dog will also be downtown to meet all of the fans enjoying great food and music. The flagship radio home of the Spikes, 95.3-3WZ, will also be downtown to help fans get ready for the All-Star Game.
