The Belle of Amherst
A Play by William Luce

Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 8:00 PM: The State Theatre
Cost: $14 & $12 Senior & Student
Category: Theater
William Luce’s “The Belle of Amherst” is a sparkling corrective to a popular misconception. We are the guests in the home of the witty and mischievous Emily Dickinson who lives inside the eccentric recluse -- a mask that she finds it useful to maintain. A line from one of her poems could almost be a personal motto: “Tell all the Truth but tell it slant.” This Emily is ‘vivacious and charming… She beguiles her audience with tales of the men (mostly married) that she loved and lost, and with her questioning of religion”(Variety), her dealings with editors and other writers, and even her recipe for black cake.

In addition to the TEK display there are a series of special labels throughout the exhibit highlighting the importance of oil in World War Two. The special energy theme will remain on display through the end of the year.
