Gettysburg's Schmucker Hall in Peace and War

Centre Furnace Mansion With Wayne Motts, Executive Director of Adams County Historical Society. Built in 1832, Schmucker Hall on the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg witnessed the terrible fighting right outside its doors on 1 July 1863 between elements of the First Union Army Corps and the Southern Forces under the command of General A.P. Hill.

Civil War Round Table Meeting

The Central Pennsylvania Civil War Round Table will meet December 8 at the Centre Furnace Mansion in State College at 7:00 p.m. This will be a joint meeting between the CWRT and the Centre County Historical Society. The featured speaker for the evening will be Mr. Wayne Motts, Executive Director of the Adams County Historical Society, who will speak on "Gettysburg's Schmucker Hall in Peace and War". Schmucker Hall is the Lutheran Seminary building made famous by Brigadier General John Buford who watched from the Hall's cupola the Union Cavalry hold off Lee's Confederates on the first day of the battle on July 1, 1863.

"Response To Machiavelli" by Tom Block Exhibit

Tom Block is an artist, writer and theoretician best known for work that delves into the search for spiritual meaning in a post-religious era. His exhibit, Response to Machiavelli, is a series of paintings that offers a moral perspective on political issues. The exhibit will be on view in HUB Gallery from September 11 through December 12, 2008. HUB Gallery is located on the first floor of the HUB-Robeson Center and is open during the fall from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Tuesday through Thursday; 12:00 PM-4:00 PM Friday through Sunday; closed Monday.
